Wind Energy Agency Bremerhaven/Bremen (WAB)

WAB

The use of wind power is continuously rising, both nationally and internationally. The coming period in Germany will see the replacement of existing wind power plants with more efficient and modern equipment. Since the available sites on land for wind power are limited, the development of offshore sites is an important way forward for the industry. The wind power sector is already an important part of the economy. The establishment of a network of excellence for onshore and offshore wind power will boost Bremerhaven as a base for wind power.

The Wind Energy Agency Bremerhaven/Bremen (WAB) was established in February 2002 by 18 members, including the Bremerhaven Chamber of Commerce, Bremerhaven University and companies from the wind power sector. The agency now has more than 130 members, and its member companies cover all the fields of expertise along the value chain of the wind power industry: machinery and plant construction, manufacture of rotor blades and towers, engineering, project development, financing, logistics, components and services. The WAB is based in t.i.m.e. Port in Bremerhaven. The promotion of wind power by the WAB mainly takes the form of networking between the members, thus creating a diverse network of companies. As part of the support for projects and research, for example, firms based in Bremerhaven and Bremen are developing new types of foundations (known as "tripods") for offshore wind power plants. Another task of the WAB is to mediate between the wind power industry and government

Network of excellence for wind power

The use of wind power is continuously rising, both nationally and internationally. The coming period in Germany will see the replacement of existing wind power plants with more efficient and modern equipment. Another task of the WAB is to mediate between the wind power industry and government.

Further WAB services include advice on research projects and on available support, assistance with project design and finding partners, and workshops and seminars.
