ZiB - Career Futures - Transferring know-how for women

Approximately 18 % of the overall funding of Bremen’s Objective 2 programme is used to support investment in labour-market-policy measures and in particular to achieve close co-ordination between economic policy and labour-market policy with respect to support for new start-ups. At the same time, following the gender mainstreaming approach, there is a focus on new business start-ups by women.

One project in this field is the ZiB (Zukunft im Beruf – Career Futures), the Co-ordination and Advice Centre for Women and Work. As a centre of excellence, the ZiB acts as an interface in the field of labour-market, economic and employment policy. The ZiB’s priorities are advice on setting up new businesses and co-operation. Female entrepreneurs receive individual advice in the course of which the foundations are drawn up for a business concept which takes especial account of the career and life situation of the entrepreneur. Further support/coaching is possible, and in addition there are workshops, lectures and other events.

An additional priority of the ZiB is to provide support on vocational orientation, information on available support and career planning. The aim has always been to get women into regular jobs. In view of the trend on the labour market and in the economy on the one hand, and of the changing interests and needs of the women seeking advice on the other, the ZiB has expanded this service. This expansion is also expressed in the new designation of the service: "vocational orientation advice / career planning".

The advice centre co-operates with all institutions which create the necessary environment for the equal participation of women in commercial life. It also participates in regional and supra-regional working groups and networks working towards an improvement in the career position of women. In the co-ordination centre, ideas and proposals for action are developed – always with a view to gender mainstreaming – and are transmitted to appropriate co-operation partners.

The advice centre can be reached by phone Mondays to Thursdays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
