European Maritime Day

European Maritime Day (EMD) is the leading maritime event in Europe and brings together different maritime stakeholders from all around Europe each year. This includes members of the European Commission and high-level representatives of the member states and the European regions, the maritime economy, business associations and other stakeholders.

Bremen has been chosen by the European Council to host the EMD in 2014. Conferences, workshops and thematic exhibitions will take place over two days. Hosting the European Maritime Day offers Bremen an excellent opportunity to present its maritime expertise and to profile itself as a European maritime base. Representatives of the Senate and the City Parliament can take advantage of the presence of representatives of the European institutions and other member states to present Bremen’s maritime initiatives at political level. There will be many different opportunities for the state’s maritime industry and representatives of business associations and other stakeholders to present their expertise to a European audience and to build up contacts. Bremen is thus latching on to its past involvement in maritime policy issues and is underlining its desire to play an active part in mastering the maritime challenges in the German and European context.
