Computer science in commerce: utilising the potential of women

The European Gender & ICT Conference was held at Bremen University from 5 to 7 March 2009. The symposium aimed not least to discuss the preconditions for better opportunities for women to access training, research and production in the field of information and communication technologies. Multipliers from technology, technology development, media, computer science and the natural sciences were to be informed about the latest developments in international studies and activities.
The congress was to include a separate workshop on utilising the potential of women in the IT sector and IT applications. The workshop was headed by Claudia Morell, Executive Director of the Center for Women and Information Technology in Baltimore, MD, USA. She has launched a world-wide initiative to attract more women into computer science and has gained the support of various large companies for this work (AT&T, smconsulting, DELL, Cisco and others).
