Blumenthal development concept – Bremer Wollkämmerei Masterplan

Bremen’s wool combing company in Bremen-Blumenthal, Bremer Wollkämmerei, was closed in early 2009. The resulting decline in industrial jobs went hand in hand with a loss of important services and functions in the centre of Blumenthal, with structural change in the retail sector, a shift in preferences and increased mobility of the residential population.

Against this background, strategic ideas for an integrating masterplan entitled Blumenthal – central area were developed. The intention is to improve the Historic Axis and a riverbank promenade.
Funding to plan and guide the implementation of the concept is being provided by the 2007-2013 ERDF programme.

Bremer Wollkämmerei: construction work around storehouses 100 and 101

Warehouses 100 and 101 are mostly vacant old storage sheds that were part of Bremen’s wool-combing factory. The buildings are some of the oldest in the area.

An Oldtimer Centre is to be set up in these buildings. There is a deep dip in the ground to the west of the warehouses and the Historic Axis as planned in the Blumenthal masterplan. Filling in the dip to the level of the future Historic Axis would provide provisional access to and from the warehouses. This would also enhance the significance of the future Historic Axis, a central measure of the Bremer Wollkämmerei masterplan.
Funding from the 2007-2013 ERDF programme is going towards the construction work.
